On the Flap
Jo Walsh has loved Cameron Mitchell for as long as she can remember. Whether front and center in her life or on the periphery, the tall, brooding artist has made his presence seductively and irresistibly known. But whenever they start to get close, Cam pulls away. Jo's tired of keeping her feelings in a box Cam is afraid to open. If he wants her, he'll have to prove it. And if he doesn't, Jo will need to know the real reason why . . .
. . . become the love of a lifetime?
How do you walk away from your soul mate? Cam wishes he knew. No matter how far he runs from Jo, he can't resist looking back at the silver eyes that seem to see right through him. But as well as Jo thinks she understands Cam, the dark truth about his past is something she shouldn't have to handle. Cam's sure that setting Jo free is the right thing to do. Too bad his heart has other ideas . . .
Cam as you know has been more of a brooding bad boy with a dark side. While married to Kerris, it felt like the relationship was second best to both of them. She had an unrequited love for Walsh and he was inevitably preoccupied with Jo as well as a host of other things.
As the Walsh family princess, Jo has known a life of privilege but that doesn’t mean it was sunshine and roses. She has had her share of sadness loosing first her mother at a young age and then Aunt Kris who later occupied that role. In the wake of Kristeene’s passing, Jo has spent the following years focusing on the family foundation and helping children across the globe have a better life.
Cam and Jo have always had an underlying tension which because the focus of the prior installments was on different characters has been subtle until now. It Be Mine Forever, their attraction is unleashed. It’s primal, passionate, and yet loveable in a manner fitting of their brass personalities. In the past, I had much cared for Cam’s character or more specifically characteristics. He had displayed an extreme possessiveness of a child with a toy he didn’t even like when he was with Kerris. Mistakes were made on both their parts but in this book we get to read the back story and truly see all the puzzle pieces fall into place as to why he is the way he is. He still maintains a strong overprotectiveness with Jo that walks a fine line between alpha male goodness and just plain crazy.
Throughout much of the story I was screaming “Cam just get some therapy!” Fortunately I think he heard me, because he does. This man is entirely damaged but with Jo he finally finds a reason to move forward and away from the past he never dealt with. He gets his happy ending but there’s quite a bit of dissension and waiting for the other shoe to drop before you get there. This has been a great series which mixes rollercoaster emotions, sizzling sex, and an undercurrent of social issues addressed in an understated manner.
