On the Flap
(Except Alex. He's a womanizing manwhore. And maybe Stratton, because he's wicked hot, but super awkward around girls.)
Barrett English, aka "the Shark," is the fair-haired, first-born of the English brothers, and the CEO of the oldest, most prestigious investment banking firm in Philadelphia. He rules the boardroom with an iron fist, refusing to take no for an answer and always getting his way.
Emily Edwards, a first-year doctoral student at the University of Pennsylvania, grew up in the gatehouse on the outskirts of Barrett's childhood estate. The daughter of his family's gardener and housekeeper, she was always looking through the window of privilege, but forced to remember her place at the very periphery of the kingdom.
When business partners suggest that a fiancee might soften Barrett's image over business dinners, he approaches Emily for the "job" of fiancee. And while love wasn't necessarily on Barrett's radar, he begins to realize that Emily always has been. But will his take-no-prisoners boardroom tactics work on the heart of the woman he loves.

In this series she introduces us to the English brothers. This book focuses on the eldest of the five, Barrett. Other wise known as "the Shark", he is best known for his ruthless business dealings. The only deal he could never figure out how to close is how to get close to Emily Edwards, the Gardner's daughter, who he has been in love with most of his life.
Barrett had always taken care of Emily from afar. Upon hearing about her money woes, Barrett wanted to help. He wanted to do it in a way that didn't make her feel like a charity case. He does what he does best and strikes up a deal with her. He offers her a hefty sum of money to be his fake fiancée at business events. Emily willingly agrees not only because of her dwindling pocket book but also because she herself wants to get closer to Barrett.
After playing his fake fiancee for months, Emily decides to stop putting her love life on hold and break up with Barrett. On what she thinks is her last date with him, she decides to throw caution to the wind and flirt with Barrett. This plan opens the flood gates to them revealing their feelings for one another. Where the story goes from there is sweet, sexy and entertaining. I have to say although I fell in love with Barrett, I was more drawn to Emily. I loved that she is strong, sweet, understanding and smart. It was a perfect match to Barrett's rough edges and shark like mentality. She softened him in ways no one else could.
This was a sweet story with a little bit of sizzle mixed in. An enjoyable read, for sure. Bring on Fitz!!!
