As the storm rages around them, they find each other, and the calm in the Eye of the Storm.
You need to read After the Storm before this one otherwise you will be completely lost. Also, you’ll want to read that one before this review or else it could be somewhat of a spoiler.
Evie runs a bookstore in Boston but has to return to Ipswich to care for her grandma after a minor accident. On the upside, she gets to spend a little extra time with her best friend, Lexi before Lexi and Noah leave for their honeymoon. While there she also plans to the search for Lexi’s attacker before he can strike again. She has asked for assistance from an unlikely person.
Anthony spent five years in prison after being found guilty for the first attack on Lexi. At the end of After the Storm, we find out it was actually a man name Jeremy who tortured and tried to kill her. Jeremy changed his appearance to look identical to Anthony as yet another way to torment him from afar. Anthony knows he can’t get his life back until Jeremy is found. He uses his money and prominence to investigate the whereabouts of the madman. The closer he gets to finding Jeremy, the higher the body count.
This is an intriguing story of globetrotting in search of a vicious serial killer. Anthony and Evie form an improbable partnership as they pursue the same things. Jeremy’s brutalization continues to become more graphic as further information is found and he becomes crazier and desperate. Along the way, with the help of ample time spent together, their pairing changes into a relationship. Her caring nature helps him begin to imagine a life past the drama of the past years.
The second installment is even better than the first. We continue to get plenty of humor from the Troublesome Trio and to see the happiness between Lexi and Noah. In addition, Jackson (Evie’s brother) and Kat (Lexi’s bodyguard) become more central characters as their story is next. There are plenty of twists and turns, especially near the end. You can always expect the unexpected.
