If I had to pick a bride of convenience, my first choice would NOT be Peach Maloney. My fiftieth choice would NOT be Peach.
Top spot on my list of occupational hazards? Yes.
Royal pain in the crumpets? Yes.
A bride of convenience? No.
But I’ve unexpectedly gone from royal bodyguard to monarch, having inherited a crown that was stolen from my family long before my birth. The kicker of this unexpected royal gift? In order to take the throne I must find a wife.
Have I mentioned Peach would NOT have been my hundredth choice?
But I’ve no other options, and she needs a favor that my new position can fulfill quite nicely. So we’ve agreed to play the doting newlyweds out in public.
In private, though, our rules are simple:
And certainly no sex.
I should have known better than to marry a rule-breaker.
Peach has one sassy mouth and she's not afraid to use it. She doesn't care if you are royalty or come from the wrong side of the tracks, you earn her respect and she will murder anyone who threatens those she loves. She's fiercely independent and has had to fight for everything she's got. She co-owns a flight company called Weightless with her best friend Joey. Joey and her sister Gracie have been Peach's steady rocks and the glue that holds her together when times are rough. She is fighting tooth and nail to get granted custody of her 14 year old sister, Papaya, so she can make sure she grows up in a stable home where people make sure she knows her worth. After an unfortunate hijacking of a hot air balloon, Peach is left with no option but to marry a man in hopes that the judge will deem her fit to have custody of Papaya. Her marriage is one of convenience, but what happens when the when the high and mighty Viktor starts to melt her icy heart?
Viktor has been a faithful guard to Prince Manning. He's been a stickler for the rules and gets quite the joy out of pushing Peach's buttons whenever she comes to visit Prince Manning's wife, Gracie. While performing his guardly duty in the backwoods of Alabama he learns his family has the opportunity to claim back the throne of his grandfather's beloved Amoria. There is a catch to his ascension, Viktor must be married and in love to take his place as King. Viktor will do anything to honor his grandfather and father's dream of reclaiming Amoria ... even marry the remarkably frustrating Peach Maloney. Peach wasn't his first choice, hell she's not even his fiftieth choice, but alas he has no other options and she needs a favor that is new position can fulfill quite nicely. She was never his first choice ... but what happens when Viktor starts discovering she's the only choice he wants.
The sexual chemistry between Peach and Viktor is blazing hot. It's completely throw me in the cheesiest room of love and tear my clothes off to devour me blazing hot. The sexual chemistry could break the furniture, that's how much tension there is. Heck if I were Peach I'd let Viktor take me on one of those coin operated vibrating heart beds, the ones that typically have mirrors on the ceilings. That's how scorching their sexual tension, and let's be real the sexy Viktor, is. They have this love hate vibe going on and it really works well for them. Even outside of the sexual chemistry, there is a deep emotional chemistry they have .. even though they try to fight it and hide it. Side by side they work well together, both with running the kingdom and trying to keep Papaya out of trouble .They are able to challenge each other and go tit for tat without demeaning one another. They treat each other as equals and fight for what they care about with all that they have. Ugh the power scene in the throne room with the Duke, that was so damn beautiful.
Alexander and Samuel were just so fudging adorable and their dry humor often had me cackling out loud. Papaya reminds me how moody and passionate I was about everything when I was 14. Meemaw seems like she'd be a good time at a strip club, or in Vegas. Of course our other lovers are a hoot and a half like always. Though I admit, I can't help but giggle like a little school girl every time the big teddy bear Zeus is protective of the women in his life. The shenanigans in this book. Holy toledo. They will have you rolling.
This was such a fun and adorable read. It goes to show that sometimes love can show up when you least expect, and sometimes with someone you wouldn't have thought you could love in a million years. It also goes to show that sometimes you may love someone, but it doesn't mean you always have to like them. Peach and Viktor were a marriage of convenience. He didn't want the flighty rule breaker. She didn't want the uppity guard with a stick up his ass. They may not have been what they wanted, but damn they were what they each needed.

Give me an alpha male with a woman who aces all forms of sarcasm and I'm putty in you hands -- bonus points if a Reverse Harem is involved. Supernatural esque romance and power plays tend to make my heart go pitter patter. I haven't met a book I wasn't willing to try, so if you've got recommendations email them my way. I'm a foul mouthed makeup addict with slight wino tendencies.
