ONE KISS CAN LAST FOREVER
Becca Thorpe has uprooted her life and escaped to the beach. Now's her chance to get away from city living, throw caution to the ocean winds, and live in the moment. Especially if the moment includes the deliciously sexy surfer she meets shortly after arriving in Lucky Harbor. Something about the dark intensity of Sam's eyes and the thrill she gets at his touch convinces her to stay awhile.
Boatbuilder and investment genius Sam Brody is a self-made man who knows how dangerous it can be to mix business and pleasure. But he can't resist offering Becca a job just to hear her laugh and have her near. Yet when her brother comes to town asking for help, will he tempt her back to her glamorous life in the city? Or do Sam and little Lucky Harbor have a chance to win Becca's heart?
Although this is the tenth book in the Lucky Harbor series, it can easily be enjoyed as a standalone.
Becca Thorpe shows up in Lucky Harbor on a pit stop. She needs some adventure and a change of pace, but she also needs money. She quickly begins to integrate herself in this quirky village by the sea first by looking for employment to supplement her flailing jingle writing career. Although a little aloof and a bit of introvert, she makes close friends expeditiously. For the first time she feels loved and appreciated. Becca history remains a mystery throughout. Very much like an onion, the layers are peeled and revealed until we get to the heart of why she ran in the first place.
Tough guy, Sam Brody, owns and runs a charter company with his best friends. Because he’s good with numbers, he runs their finances. Because he’s not so good with people, he builds the boats more than taking customers out on the water. Upon meeting Becca quickly dubs him Sexy Grumpy Surfer, which sums him up quite nicely. He had a difficult childhood being bounced around between his father’s and foster care. Even in adulthood, he still struggles emotionally to take care of his father.
Sam’s world fits nicely into place and is status quo until Becca come barging in first as a neighbor to his business and then as a wannabe waitress in the local bar and grill. By the end of the night, she’s again out of a job but now has growing lust for the irritable man candy next door. After one scorching night together Sam gives her a choice, working for him or continuing with the new relationship. She chooses the job. Due to the amount of time they must spend in close proximity, their connection grows even with the boundaries he’s set. Don’t worry, the sassy Becca points out to Sam that it’s his choice.
I love this story. It’s sweet with a side of attitude. Becca is feisty and completely unafraid of the cantankerous Sam. They have a great bond which simulates a type kindred spirits. She has been taking care of others her whole life even if it hurts her. Although Sam has had similar problems, his protective instinct takes over. He acts very much like an alpha male around her. While at times a great deal of tension in a book is good and helps propel the plot, this story isn’t overly wrought with angst. The gradual smoldering of the intense bond between Becca and Sam is the core of this charming story.
