On the flap: It's five years later and both Annie and Brendan have changed. But something about the new her brings out the old him and, like inevitable magnets, they meet again. Brendan doesn't recognize her and doesn't know why Annie looks so familiar... and she doesn't want to tell him. She wants to keep things just as they are - HOT.
Annie knows she should be honest, that lies lead nowhere good, but when the man she's loved since she first laid eyes on him finally sees her and wants her, too - she doesn't want to pull the curtain back to show who the real wizard is... just a girl who nobody saw, and who changed herself just for him.
This one picks up five years later and right where the previous installment left off. To refresh your memory…Annie has moved back from Italy, leaving her long-time love Christiano behind. She has opened a bar, Le Barre, in the Mission district. In an effort to console Mark’s precarious love issues, Brendan decides to switch things up and try a new bar…Le Barre.
Brendan is instantly attracted to the bartender (i.e. Annie) and begins flirting with her. After her initial shock of seeing him and further realization he doesn’t recognize her, Annie begins to trifle in return. It’s fun to see her acting more freely especially in light of her second chance with him.
A majority of this second part to the Hearts series is much like a game of cat and mouse; it’s the dance of will they or won’t they. While Brendan seems more like his pre-heartbroken self, he’s also had plenty of experience as the player and those habits are hard to break. Just when you think everything is going to be alright, Sabrina Lacey throws a bit of a curveball and takes us in a different direction. In the end this is a big tease with more of a cliffhanger. Literally, I’m all in the story. I’ve finished a chapter and swipe my screen to get “The End of Part 2”. I think an exaggerated cry left my mouth amidst the realization I again have to wait. Kudos to Lacey for creating an enticing tale.
