Talented young ballplayer Clay Love has just been called up from the minors to play major league baseball. Freelance writer and divorcée Rose Lasting, the world's biggest baseball fan, wasn't expecting to fall in love when she fell into Clay's arms, but fall in love she did. Now they are caught up in a whirlwind romance complicated by the paparazzi, Clay's ex-girlfriend, Rose's ex-husband, and a stalker who puts Rose's life in grave danger.
Rookie Season is about Rose, a divorcee, and her baseball rookie boyfriend, Clay. Rose is a die hard baseball fan and goes to every game with Sam, who she calls her best friend, but is in fact a wonderful father figure to her. Rose is 10 years older than Clay, which doesn't seem to be an issue with him. I can't tell you enough how much I loved the author for bringing up the issue, but didn't take 3 chapters for the characters to get over the age gap. They meet, fall in love and have to deal with an ex husband, who suddenly realizes he's made mistakes, and Clay's crazy ex-girlfriend. It had suspense, romance, and I really enjoyed the secondary characters (I hope Hunter is next in the series *hint hint, wink wink*). The book had a nice pace and was well written. I was never bored and didn't have to skim through to get to the good parts. Although it had its predictable moments, it was an overall enjoyable read.
