On the Flap
British hotelier Ian Gregson had it all – wealth, good looks, power, and a share in his family’s worldwide, multi-billion dollar luxury hotel chain. His very name was synonymous with sophistication and elegance, and any woman he wanted could be his with just a look. But the only woman he truly desired was strictly forbidden to him for too many reasons to count.
Tessa Lockwood was young, beautiful, and lonely, despite the fact that she was a married woman. Her life had not been an easy one, and the extravagant world she caught glimpses of as an employee of the Gregson Hotel Group was far beyond anything she could ever dream of. She could no more imagine herself ensconced in that sort of luxurious lifestyle than she could attracting the attention of her handsome, debonair boss.
Ian and Tessa secretly long for each other from afar, never daring to reveal their forbidden attraction to the other, until circumstances bring them together in a very unexpected way. And from that point on, nothing will stand in Ian’s way to finally make her his.
AUTHOR’S NOTE – despite what you might be thinking at this point, there is NO cheating in this story – just an incredibly romantic hero who will make you swoon with the way in which he sweeps the heroine off her feet!
Note while this is part of a series it can be read as a stand alone.
Having had a rough life as a child, now as an adult Tessa exhibits the ability to take care of herself. This happens to be coupled with a bit of a codependency. She married at a very young age mostly as a means to an end. She and her husband are the only support each other knows. As a talented support work, they move to San Francisco when Tessa is transferred to the regional headquarters for the hotel chain by which she’s employed. On her first day there, she meets her arduous boss.
As vice president of the American hotels, Ian is used to his demanding schedule. He has rightfully earned a reputation as an ice king in the office, keeping things purely professional. Born and raised in the UK, gorgeous, and wealthy has made him one of the bay’s most eligible bachelors. He’s always attending society events with the most glamorous of women but so far none have been able to keep him.
For two years Tessa and Ian have secretly pined for one another with no ability to resolve their mutual crush; she’s married and plus he’s her boss. Then comes the news of her impending divorce and everything changes on a dime. Knowing she’s a bit skittish as well as incredibly private, Ian sets upon making lengthy plans to woo and win her over.
For some reason this one took me a bit longer to finish but it was in no way boring. It’s intriguing, kept my attention, and is a bit longer than many of the books out. The overall story is charming and sentimental. Ian and Tessa are a perfect fit all the way down to their own neuroses. She’s overly sweet but believably so. While she wants to depend on others and feels like she needs to have someone there, she’s still exceedingly independent. Ian, who is often seen as strict, turns out to be quite tender. It’s a lovely story filled with charisma and desire.
