When I accepted the teaching position in a town the size of my thumb,
all I cared about was making some money until I was ready to pursue my dream.
My time here was supposed to have an expiration date.
My plan was simple.
The girl with a cupcake and fascinating sadness.
Her beauty got my attention first, then her loneliness and melancholy captivated me.
Her words and pain fed my interest, but it was her heart that sealed my fate.
I came to this town with no expectations.
But I didn't know my dream and muse was waiting for me in a school uniform.
Abby has a way of giving you a love story that is complex and not all that easy. Love is hard. Sometimes there are obstacles you have to overcome, and she isn't afraid to make you look at those obstacles even if some would deem them "taboo". Surface level you would think this is just another student / teacher romance, but it is so much more than that. You have two people drawn together in this sort of melancholic dance, a dance that flows beautifully through the siren song that is Abby's writing.
The chemistry between Eva and Elijah is burning white hot from their very first cupcake together. Elijah couldn't help but be drawn to the girl sitting alone with her cupcake, and Eva couldn't help but feel connected to a stranger who went out of his way to make her birthday feel special. When Elijah realizes the pretty girl with the melancholy smile from the night before is a student in one of his classes he about has a heart attack. Eva and Elijah try to do the responsible thing and keep their distance from one another. At the end of the day, the heart wants what the heart wants.
I love that their relationship starts from a more intellectual and emotional place before it gets physical. Eva is so much more than the pretty rich girl that everyone talks about. She is a sad and lonely girl who is just trying to keep herself from drowning in her pain. A pain that no one had ever taken the time or care to notice ... that is until Elijah. He is drawn to her heartbreak and feels it right alongside his own. They are connected not only by heart but by soul, and no matter how much they try to resist they can't help but fall headfirst into those feelings. Don't even get me started on the sexual chemistry. Holy toledo, someone please grab me a fan cause it's getting hot in here.
Eva and Elijah's love story is bittersweet at times, but those moments make it worth all the heart warming ones that come right along with it. Eva found someone who would help her shoulder the weight of the world. Someone who has shown her that it is okay to feel the pain, but you can't let that pain suffocate all thats good in you. Elijah found the bruised soul that mirrors his own. A woman who is not only his partner, but is also his Muse. Grab the box of tissues, a healthy bottle of wine, and get real comfy because this book is going to take you through quite the emotional roller-coaster ... but I promise you the ride will be worth it in the end.

Give me an alpha male with a woman who aces all forms of sarcasm and I'm putty in you hands -- bonus points if a Reverse Harem is involved. Supernatural esque romance and power plays tend to make my heart go pitter patter. I haven't met a book I wasn't willing to try, so if you've got recommendations email them my way. I'm a foul mouthed makeup addict with slight wino tendencies.
