When I was a child he brought me back from the brink of death. Since that day I have borne his mark, a black star in the center of my left palm. The villagers say it brands me as evil. I think it means something far worse. It marks me as his.
The disease that nearly killed me has returned to the village and children are dying. I’m the only one who dares to climb the mountain and learn his secrets. In exchange I’m to clean his house and help with his strange experiments, but Meremon wants more. He wants me. And it isn’t long before I discover that his demands are as twisted as his experiments.
Warning: This story is a dark fantasy romance with scenes of non-consent and dubious consent. Additionally, Meremon is a necromancer and enjoys unusual things. Some sex scenes might be strange or creepy for some readers.
Brianna created a piece that balances that fine line between beautiful creepy and morally wrong creepy. It is hard to find that balance with a dark horror romance book, by damn did Brianna pull it off. The writing was impeccable and the pace of the novella flowed smoothly. The story concept is so unique and out of the box.
Meremon is a necromancer who at first feels detached and inhumanely cruel. As the story moves forward you begin to learn that everything he does is out of love and wanting to take care of Rhona. He shifts from this menacing enigma to a misunderstand man with a bleeding heart. Rhona is strong-willed and brave, willing to fight for those she loves no matter what the cost to her. She has been seen as an outcast and the people around her have cursed her name, all because the necromancer healed her as a child and left his mark on her palm. Rhona's loneliness finds kinship with Meremon. As time passes she gets to know him and begins to realize that he is just misunderstood and just as deserving of love as she is.
The sex floats that line of disturbingly strange and kinky, but yet you can't help but look away and be fascinated by it. These scenes may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I personally found myself intrigued and unable to stop reading. The love that develops between them touched my heart in ways I didn't realize was possible. Meremon and Rhona have a love that is hauntingly beautiful.

Give me an alpha male with a woman who aces all forms of sarcasm and I'm putty in you hands -- bonus points if a Reverse Harem is involved. Supernatural esque romance and power plays tend to make my heart go pitter patter. I haven't met a book I wasn't willing to try, so if you've got recommendations email them my way. I'm a foul mouthed makeup addicted with slight wino tendencies.
