On the flap: Burned by an unreliable source, Savannah Carmichael, returns to her hometown of Danvers, Virginia with her once-promising journalism career in ruins. Given the opportunity to get her skin back in the game by writing a patriotic human interest piece, Savannah turns her attention to the town hermit, Asher Lee, a wounded veteran who returned to Danvers eight years ago, and hasn’t been seen since.
After an IED explosion in Afghanistan took Asher’s hand and disfigured half of his face, he's lived a quiet life on the outskirts of Danvers where the locals respect his privacy…that is, until Savannah Carmichael comes calling in a borrowed sundress and a plate of homemade brownies. When Asher agrees to be interviewed by Savannah, he starts feeling things for the beautiful reporter that he hasn’t felt in years.
Misfits in small-town Danvers, Savannah and Asher create a bond right away, touching each other’s hearts in ways neither thought possible. When a terrible mistake threatens to drive them apart, they’ll have to decide if the love they found in one another’s arms is strong enough to fight for their hard-won happily ever after.
I can’t start this review without first saying that I LOVED this story. Katy Regnery does it again! She delivers a breathtaking story that has you sighing one minute and crying the next. Savannah Carmichael and Asher Lee are two individuals from a small town called Danvers who have suffered much in their young lives. Asher is an Army veteran whose injuries he sustained while on his tour of duty, left him disfigured. Since the town had turned their back on him upon his return, he has been living in solitude. That is until Savannah comes along. After losing her big reporting job in New York City, she decides to return home to figure out the next move in her career. When she is presented an opportunity to get back in the reporting game, she jumps at it. She has to write a special interest piece on the illusive Asher Lee. What she gets in return was more than she was ever expecting.
If you are a fan of "Beauty and the Beast" like I was then you will definitely love this story. There's a library, a beauty and a beast. It even comes complete with a Miss Potts. (I loved that.) But that is where the similarities end. In this story, I saw Savannah more as the beast trying to get her story and hardened by her time in the City and Asher as the beauty seeking shelter in her arms and slowly breaking down her defenses. They are two individuals who always felt they never quite fit in. In the course of their relationship, they inspire one another to be a better person than they were. Their love is the only thing that matters beyond physical beauty and professional success. That when all that is gone, all that is left is the love you have for one another.

You can always find me with my nose in my Kindle reading a romance novel starring a tough talking, hard loving alpha male and sassy heroine. For the past six years reading has been my addiction. I am always up for a good read and am excited when I get any suggestions. My other loves are working out and spending time with my hubs, family and friends.
