Petty Officer Bacon, a navy SEAL and ace sharpshooter, has been on the front lines of more than his fair share of dangerous ops. Yet when a minor injury relegates him to the beta team, he’s tasked with what may be his riskiest assignment yet: the silver fox journalist he’s babysitting is the hottest, most charismatic man he’s ever encountered.
Award-winning journalist Spencer Bryant may have been named one of Pride magazine’s most eligible bachelors of the year, but he’s not looking to change his relationship status. He’s a consummate professional who won’t risk his ethics or impeccable reputation by getting involved with a source. Even a sexy-as-hell military man. But while Spencer can resist his physical attraction to Bacon, he has less control over his emotions—especially when the mission goes sideways and the two men are trapped alone.
Getting out of the jungle alive turns out to be easy compared to facing the truth about their feelings for one another back in the real world. And whether or not they can build a future is a different story altogether.
Bacon lives for being on the front line, but a minor injury finds him having to take a step back. Stuck on the sidelines he is left having to play babysitter for an award-winning journalist. To make matters worse he isn't too thrilled about the ill advised attraction he has towards Spencer. Will Bacon's new ward feel budding chemistry between the two?
Spencer is an award-winning journalist and is on a mission to fulfill a promise he made to a friend. He has embedded himself within a Naval Seal team hoping to get the story he needs. Hostility from the Seals was to be expected, but the intense attraction towards a man they call Bacon was definitely not on the agenda. Come on, Bacon. Really. Can he resist the temptation that is pulling him towards this hot as sin sharpshooter, or will he be the one distraction he can't afford to complete his mission?
I was a little cautious jumping into this story at first due to it containing two things that I'm not always fond of, a slow burn and a significant age gap, but alas the cover twitterpatted my heart and I needed to give it a chance. I HAVE NO REGRETS. The age gap didn't seem as significant and I think that is mainly in part due to Bacon's level of maturity. Slow burn effect worked amazingly for Spencer and Bacon. It really helped build the tension and chemistry between the two characters, then when we get to that first sex scene hot damn the payoff was worth it.
The military aspect added an honest and raw aspect to their relationship. They are both career driven men and the potential of having to give up some of that aspect of themselves is very real and scary to them. When it comes to the big climactic moment all that hurt and anger hits you straight in the gut, you feel exactly how they feel in that moment. The pain. The selfishness. The sadness. The anger. It's all consuming in that moment and as a reader I want to be consumed right with them in that moment.
I had a hard time connecting to Spencer. Something about his personality just rubbed me the wrong way. There were many times I just wanted to reach into the book and just shake him to come to his senses. Bacon on the other hand I adored and just wanted to cuddle him at all times.
The ending left me a little ..... hmph. I was expecting to essentially being a blubbering mess and for that perfect explosion of a reunion, but it wasn't there. I got more so much from the climax that I was hoping the resolution would have hit me in the feels just as much. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't as all up in my emotions as I expected it to be.
Spencer and Bacon's romance was believable to me. Their tender loving moments were just as good as their explosive fighting moments. They were all consuming with one another, and they definitely consumed me right along with them.

Give me an alpha male with a woman who aces all forms of sarcasm and I'm putty in you hands -- bonus points if a Reverse Harem is involved. Supernatural esque romance and power plays tend to make my heart go pitter patter. I haven't met a book I wasn't willing to try, so if you've got recommendations email them my way. I'm a foul mouthed makeup addicted with slight wino tendencies.
