On the flap: Retired military colonel Caleb Edgington has spent two long years trying to achieve the most important mission objective of his life—but not behind enemy lines. He’s trying to capture a woman with a broken heart. Having lost at love once, he understands being gun shy. The residual fears from Carlotta Buckley’s nasty divorce have stood between them, but he’s done with that. And he’s got the perfect strategy to lure her in…
Carlotta never thought she’d fall in love again. Once bitten, she’s now more than twice shy. And Caleb is everything she can’t handle—fierce, relentless, uncompromising…sexual.
Caleb Edgington spent many years trying to get past the loneliness and guilt after being left and subsequent death of his ex-wife. He has made appearances in three previous books as he’s the father to Kimber, Hunter, and Logan.
Carlotta Buckley, Kata’s mom, exhausted a good portion of her adult life in an abusive marriage following the death of her first husband. She was looking for a father figure and provider for her children but with depleted self-esteem couldn’t find it in her to get out after they were grown.
Our first glimpse of these two together occurs back in Surrender to Me when Hunter and Kata put Carlotta with Caleb while she’s recovering. This story picks up two years later with the two of them avoiding their obvious chemistry; she’s still scared and he doesn’t want to push. While this novella is short on sex, it does not lack the hotness factor. This is an emotional and satisfying bite. It’s nice to see these two have a happy ending.
